چکیده

Bois noir (BN) grapevine disease is associated with ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma solani’ (CaPsol), a pathogen complex ecology including multiple insect vectors and plant hosts. A key point to improve the effectiveness of BN control strategies consists in determining epidemiological role ground-cover weeds. The present study employed multidisciplinary approach, based on application spatial (spatial analysis by distance indices) molecular (stamp gene typing) analyses, identify weeds potential epidemiology northern Italy. Generated data showed that addition Convolvulus arvensis, one main CaPsol inoculum sources, Chenopodium album, Polygonum aviculare Trifolium repens were found epidemiology. typing highlighted strains prevalent symptomatic grapevines characterised stamp sequence variants St19, St11 (nettle-related) St5 (bindweed-related). latter was also Hyalesthes obsoletus weeds, suggesting their association bindweed-related On other hand, nettle-related occasionally H. Considering obsoletus-mediated transmission occurs mainly young instars, further investigations will confirm if, bindweed nettle, Franciacorta can represent larval developmental hosts and, consequently, act as reservoirs for grapevine. Moreover, studies are needed clarify relationship between such alternative vectors.

New 16Sr subgroups and distinct single nucleotide polymorphism lineages among grapevine Bois noir phytoplasma populations

Bois noir (BN) is an insect-transmitted grapevine yellows disease caused by phytoplasmas belonging to the stolbur subgroup 16SrXII-A. In Italy, increasing prevalence of stolbur phytoplasma strains in vineyards suggests progressive spread of the disease and potential for heavy impacts on the wine industry. In this study, we investigated the genetic diversity of stolbur phytoplasma strains in BN ...

Spatial Point Pattern Analyses and its Use in Geographical Epidemiology

Spatial epidemiology is a subfield of health geography focused on the study of the spatial distribution of health outcomes. Point pattern analysis is the evaluation of the pattern, or distribution, of a set of points on a surface. It can refer to the actual spatial or temporal location of these points or also include data from point sources. It is one of the most fundamental concepts in geograp...

Molecular epidemiology unmasks the tubercle bacillus: new techniques reveal new aspects of virulence.

T wo papers in this month’s edition of Thorax show how the use of strain typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis can reveal new aspects of tuberculosis (TB) transmission. 2 The study by Ruddy et al, based around an outbreak of isoniazid resistant TB in north London, shows that a single outbreak can extend over many years and affect a broad range of individuals including medical staff. The second s...

Computational modeling and molecular physiology experiments reveal new insights into shoot branching in pea.

Bud outgrowth is regulated by the interplay of multiple hormones, including auxin, cytokinin, strigolactones, and an unidentified long-distance feedback signal that moves from shoot to root. The model of bud outgrowth regulation in pea (Pisum sativum) includes these signals and a network of five RAMOSUS (RMS) genes that operate in a shoot-root-shoot loop to regulate the synthesis of, and respon...
